After reviewing more than 100 successful blockchain project submissions, the Cardano EMURGO BUILD 2023 Hackathon judges announced the nine different winning projects, with three winners in each of the three following tracks: derivatives (DeFi), aggregators, and zero-knowledge proofs (ZK).
The Cardano EMURGO BUILD 2023 hackathon was the largest ever Cardano blockchain hackathon, hosted and organized by global blockchain technology company EMURGO and DoraHacks, the largest multi-chain Web3 developer community.

Below, Swiper, one of the winning projects in the aggregator submission category, discusses their project in more detail.
How did your team come up with the idea for Swiper in the aggregator track? Why did you choose to build it?
Swiper: A forthcoming trend within the realm of cryptocurrencies is known as SocialFi, which combines the social aspect with decentralized finance (DeFi). Given the widespread enthusiasm for sports, we’ve conceptualized a unique proposition: the creation of an all-encompassing social platform tailored specifically for ardent sports aficionados.
What was the process for building your project throughout the two-month Cardano hackathon?
Swiper: Following the inception of the Sports SocialFi concept, we swiftly assembled a dedicated and accomplished team comprising top-tier developers, economists, growth hackers, and designers. This collective expertise was channeled into crafting the inaugural version of “Swiper,” our visionary application. In response to invaluable user feedback, our team exhibited both diligence and ingenuity, delivering not one but two subsequent updates. These updates introduced pivotal features and refined the user interface for an enhanced experience.
Leveraging the power of social channels, we strategically disseminated this innovative SocialFi application. In an impressively short span, employing a distinctive and effective user acquisition strategy, we managed to introduce the product to hundreds of thousands of users and establish a thriving community around it.
Upon completing the hackathon, what are your thoughts on the Cardano EMURGO BUILD 2023 hackathon? What were the most significant advantages and what were some of the biggest challenges?
Swiper: The hackathon presents an excellent opportunity for builders to connect and delve into the three tracks that Cardano is currently emphasizing, and has been meticulously crafted to foster competitiveness, offering compelling grants and funding. This underscores both Cardano’s and EMURGO’s dedication and aspirations to select innovative and essential solutions that could enhance the Cardano ecosystem.
The standout benefits of this Hackathon encompass comprehensive informational resources, a supportive organizing team, and a well-structured professional framework. However, it’s essential to acknowledge the notable challenges, notably the heightened level of competition and the exacting standards of the judging panel. Despite these hurdles, we take immense pride in leveraging the advantages at our disposal to surmount challenges and secure our position as one of the victors.
How does Swiper add value to the Cardano ecosystem?
Swiper: Swiper stands out distinctly within its domain and holds the potential to bridge the gaps within the Cardano ecosystem. Given Cardano’s established presence in the blockchain space, it’s imperative to infuse new, trending projects such as ZK, AI, or SocialFi to ensure competitiveness against the surge of emerging blockchain platforms.
Through this Hackathon, with the option to view “Swiper on Cardano,” hundreds of thousands of Swiper users could learn about the Cardano blockchain and its ecosystem. With the prospect of integrating Swiper onto the Cardano blockchain, the potential impact is significant — potentially reaching hundreds of thousands of Swiper users who can gain insights into Cardano and its broader ecosystem.

How does Swiper plan to use the grants and funding received to support the Cardano ecosystem? What are the next steps for your project?
Swiper: Scheduled for release in November 2023, our team is gearing up to unveil the upcoming iteration of Swiper. This new version, aptly titled the “super swipe” mode, is poised to introduce a revenue-generating dimension to the platform. The primary objective is to implement a system where Real Yield is allocated to users based on their accrued Social Points.
Out of the grants and funding secured, a significant 70% allocation is dedicated to expediting the development process. The remaining 30% is earmarked for strategic branding initiatives, aimed at amplifying the platform’s visibility and impact. It’s our fervent hope that these grants and funds will prove ample to facilitate the concurrent development of a Swiper testnet on the Cardano blockchain, aligning seamlessly with the rollout of the super swipe mode.
